1991 is a magazine uniting Somali artists across the diaspora, in the hopes of creating a platform for local, national and global Somali artists and writers to create the images they wish existed of Somalis and to envision a Somali future that goes beyond media stereotyping. Contributors to the magazine will be diverse and unique and will say something new about what it means to hail from Somalia and be Somali. This magazine will be distributed for free at a pop-up event in the Twin Cities. The event will feature performances, readings from the magazine and visual art.
